New Function From Physical Contradiction

To increase TRIZ Ideality, we need to create a new valuable function, while maintaining the old useful function of the same object. Often this leads to a contradiction. For example: a car wheel should be circle-like to provide higher speed (old function), AND should be caterpillar-like to move over rough terrain (new function). Solving this contradiction by obtaining both of these shapes and functions, leads us to new inventions. Here is one of them, but not the only one:
